"Childhood cancer is such a monster and it doesn't care what your social status is, how rich or poor you are. Sharon also wanted to remind the community Macie isn't the only child fighting cancer. And that fact that she's here right now is a miracle in it of itself," Sharon said.

She's never said 'why me?' She has never once had anything bad to say about any of this that she's gone through. She's like the bravest little girl you know, she never has complained. Through it all, Sharon said Macie has been very brave. "I cried quite a bit and at that point in time I just shut down and tried to keep it together." "She just kind of kneels in front of me and she says, 'I'm so sorry to have to tell you this, but your daughter's tumor has progressed,'" Sharon said. That's when Sharon said an emergency room doctor came out and delivered the news. "Then, in October, two months ago, we had to take her to the emergency room at Doernbecher Children's Hospital because she was starting to show neurological symptoms again which we were not expecting," Sharon said. For six months after the radiation, Sharon said there was no progression. Sharon and doctors were hopeful the radiation was going to be the one thing that worked. She and I lived up in Portland for six weeks and she had radiation every day while we were up in Portland." "She did an extensive radiation treatment earlier this year. "Right now, she's on a chemotherapy regimen to see if we can get some sort of shrinkage, some sort of response," Sharon said. Sharon said they're doing everything possible to try to get more time. Macie now has between one month and one year to live, according to doctors. "She's been through more than I would say most adults in their entire adult life," Sharon said. Sharon said Macie has had 7-8 chemotherapy regimens, 2 failed clinical trials, and 5-6 brain surgeries throughout her life. It's caused a mass effect on the entire brain. "As of right now, the tumor itself is about 8 centimeters wide," Sharon said. That tumor has continued to grow throughout Macie's life. "What we thought was going to be a year-long regiment turned out to be 10 years of chemotherapy, radiation, and numerous brain surgeries," Sharon said. She started her first regiment of chemotherapy shortly after. When she was six months old, Macie's doctors said she had an inoperable brain tumor. "I've never heard her say 'mommy, I'm scared.'" And through this too, I can't stress enough how brave she is. "With everything that she's gone through, she's always remained happy.
